Static stretching and dynamic stretching . Static stretching involves holding a stretch in a fixed position for about 15-60 seconds to lengthen muscles and improve flexibility. It’s usually done after a workout when muscles are warm, helping with muscle relaxation and recovery. Dynamic stretching, on the other hand, involves active movements that take muscles and joints through a full range of motion. This type is often used as a warm-up to increase blood flow, enhance flexibility, and prepare the body for physical activity. In general, dynamic stretching is best before exercise to boost performance, while static stretching is more effective after exercise for relaxation and flexibility.
